On Saturday, October 22, Hillsboro Medical Center will co-host a “Health & Safety Day” with the Hillsboro Rotary Club and Hillsboro Police Department at M&M Marketplace from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
This health equity event will provide the Latinx community—a group who has faced longstanding disparities in accessing healthcare—with health education, preventative services and connections to follow-up care.
“Our priority is to help those who may not have access to a primary care physician, may be uninsured or just simply do not know where to go,” says one of the organizers of the event, ¡Salud! Services Manager & Cultural Liaison Leda Garside.
Throughout the day, Hillsboro Medical Center staff will offer free health exams for the public, including diabetes screening, lipid panels, blood pressure and more. The OHSU Casey Community Outreach Program will also be on site to provide vision exams while ¡Salud! Services will help coordinate vision appointments and distributions of glasses to patients.
Mammograms will also be available on Hillsboro Medical Center’s state-of-the-art mobile mammography van. The OHSU Vaccine Equity Committee team will be there as well to help administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
“Most importantly, our goal from this event is to connect with the Latinx community to build trusting relationships by delivering essential health care services,” explains Ms. Garside.
