Hillsboro Medical Center is pleased to announce that we have named our Health Education Center after Richard “Dick” Stenson, the long-serving former President and CEO of Tuality Community Hospital, now known as Hillsboro Medical Center, from 1992 to 2014.
The building, located on Hillsboro Medical Center’s main campus at 334 SE 8th Avenue, will now be known as the Dick Stenson Health Education Center.
During his tenure as President and CEO, Stenson presided over the development of the Hillsboro Health & Education District, Tuality’s Breast Health Center and the Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center. Even after retiring, Stenson remained committed to our mission, serving on the Foundation Board, including as board chair.
“Dick Stenson’s visionary leadership inspired great transformation that enabled our hospital to grow and better serve our region,” commented Lori James-Nielsen, the current President and CEO of Hillsboro Medical Center. “The Dick Stenson Health Education Center will carry on Dick’s proud legacy of building a healthier future for our community.”

This center hosts a wide variety of educational classes, programs and events focused on health and wellbeing. It is where Hillsboro Medical Center offers childbirth and parenting classes taught by our expert perinatal educators, CPR and first aid training and safe driving courses for senior citizens.
Hillsboro Medical Center is also preparing the next generation of medical professionals at this location. The hospital’s 54 medical residents take instructive didactics at the site’s auditorium, and clinical staff are able to enhance their skills with specialty equipment in the Simulation Skills Lab.
Overall, the Dick Stenson Health and Education Center will serve as an invaluable community resource that continues to support a vibrant and healthy Hillsboro.
A formal dedication ceremony for the Dick Stenson Health and Education Center will be held at a future date.
