Hillsboro Medical Center is proud to share that our very own Jacky Eggleston was nominated for the 2024 National Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year Award by the National Child Passenger Safety Board.
She was one of nine individuals nominated for this respected recognition, and the only technician nominated from the state of Oregon.
Eggleston has worked at Hillsboro Medical Center’s Braner Family Safety Resource Center as a Car Seat Technician since 2020.
Every month, Eggleston conducts approximately 20 car seat fittings for families, which are provided free of charge through the Braner Family Safety Resource Center.
“I could talk about car seats all day long,” explains Eggleston, whose passion for child car seat safety extends beyond her daytime job.
Her house is admittedly full of car seats, as she also conducts car seat reviews in her spare time for the organization Car Seat for Littles.
This June, she will proudly celebrate her 20th year as a certified Car Seat Technician.
“I think the thing I love the most is that kids come in not as safe as they could be and after working with the families, they leave safer than they arrived,” says Eggleston. “The parents also leave with the confidence to do it [install the car seat] themselves.”
Eggleston shared three of her top car seat safety tips for families.
- Read the car seat manual (and don’t throw it away).
- Don’t move your kids too soon to the next car seat stage.
- Try your best to get your car seat checked by a certified car seat technician.
