Equity and Inclusion
OHSU and OHSU Tuality Healthcare are diverse in people and ideas. We’re committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive community through trainee recruitment, selection, retention, and beyond.
We do this through a variety of professional development programs, community partnerships, and educational resources. All our program faculty receive training in how to support equity, foster inclusion and develop awareness to improve implicit biases.
In the selection of our residents, we utilize a holistic review approach as outlined by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The mission-driven approach focuses on having an inclusive resident group that seeks to meet the needs of our underserved population.
The Internal Medicine Residency program is in a diverse community where 22 percent of the residents are Latinx, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Hillsboro is part of Washington County that borders Tillamook and Yamhill counties, both Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
The residency program aims to meet the needs of the community in collaboration with local partners and our ¡Salud! program.
¡Salud! was created by a group of Oregon winery owners and Tuality Healthcare physicians to address the barriers to health care faced by seasonal workers.
¡Salud! provides access to health care services for Oregon’s seasonal vineyard workers and their families. They offer health education and screenings at the work site. Their medical team helps patients navigate a complex and confusing healthcare system by providing guidance, education, and advocating for families.
