About this class
Diabetes self-management education is personalized to patient needs and covers the AADE7 Self-Care behaviors:
- Healthy eating (not specific to individual, medical nutrition therapy is highly recommended)
- Being active
- Monitoring
- Taking medication
- Problem-solving
- Healthy coping
- Reducing risks
Education may be provided in group classes or individual appointments for general diabetes education, gestational diabetes, or physical practice for glucose meters, continuous glucose monitors, and insulin administration.

The OHSU Health Hillsboro Medical Center, formerly Tuality Healthcare, Diabetes Self-Management Education Program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education.*
Gain the knowledge and skills to manage your diabetes. This class includes a pre-class session with a dietitian to create your own custom meal plan and a session with a nurse to develop blood glucose testing strategies. The educators will help you select the classes that work best for you. You are encouraged to bring a support person with you to class at no additional cost. Most insurance providers will cover the cost of the class. Evening classes are offered.
